First Optometrist appointment!

Dear Logan,

Your big brother had his first optometrist appointment, and he did really really well. As always, I prepped him beforehand that he would be seeing an eye doctor on a certain day. He really didn't know what to expect. I think he thought it was fun to look into the machine to look for an hot air balloon, and to do the little 'games' that the optometrist was playing with him. The only part that he didn't like was to have the eye drops for his dilation. He has never had any eye drops, so he really didn't know what to expect. He laid down as told, but when the drops got into his eyes, he was probably shocked and didn't like the minor tingly feeling. He cried a little, but was able to compose himself again to continue with the other games. Mommy was so proud of him!!

Many questioned why your brother needed to see the optometrist. One of the main reasons is (if I remember correctly) that the geneticist once mentioned if your brother also had some of the bad mitochondria as you did, the eyes would be the first place to show signs of abnormality. Since I didn't have your brother get a blood test, I really don't know if has any of the bad mitochondria. So to be on the safe side, I just schedule an appointment with the optometrist. Besides, your brother watches so much tv, plays the Wii, the laptop and all the handheld devices, it's probably best to make sure his eyes are doing ok. Luckily, everything's fine. We'll just have an annual check-up from now on.
