Thanksgiving 2010

Dear Logan,

Thanksgiving came and left.  I couldn't believe we're heading into December really soon.  We had a lovely Thanksgiving Dinner at Uncle Paul and Auntie Rachel's house last night.  I think it has slowly become a tradition for us to spend Thanksgiving with them.  This Thanksgiving, I am grateful for my wonderful family and friends, and relatively good health for everyone.

As mentioned, we were at The Lamberts last night for their annual Thanksgiving dinner with friends, starting early at 2 p.m.  They usually had their dinner super early, as friends came early, ate, talked, played, ate and then left.  It's an all-afternoon event.  Unfortunately, Daddy is on-call this whole week from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., so he pretty much worked the whole time we were at Uncle Paul and Auntie Rachel's house. Luckily, he could still be a part of the gathering, and had some delicious food.  And, some of his co-workers were at the dinner, so if he had any work questions, he could ask them right there!  The weather has become increasingly cold.  It was super cold last night when we were out in the backyard and patio.  Uncle Paul had to set up his two heat lamps outside, so that he could offer more room for his guests to congregate.  There were so many people, it was difficult for everyone to be inside the house.

Guess what I did last night after your brother went to bed?  I joined the Black Friday shopping madness at ToysRUs!!!  I knew it would be crazy, but I figured this year since they're starting at 10 p.m.instead of 5 a.m., I could just go after your brother went to bed.  And I guess many people thought the same way I did, as there were so many people.  I got there 5 minutes before 10 p.m., and the line went all around the store.  I saw many families with young children, and felt bad for the kids for being dragged out late at night to join the madness in such cold weather.  When inside the store, I could barely go through some aisles because they were packed with people waiting in line for check out.  The check-out lines curved all around the store.  I managed to grab a few "good" deals, I think, for the kids.  I got a bed tent for your brother, but it wasn't really his main present.  It's just something I think he might enjoy.  Guess how long it took for me to complete this whole shopping experience?  I got into the store at around 10:36 p.m., and finished shopping in less than an hour.  However, the check-out lines were CRAZY.  I started waiting in line at around 11 p.m., and it took me 1 hr and 45 mins to arrive at the cashier.  By the time I got home, it's already 1 a.m.

I would definitely not join this kind of madness again.  This will be my first and last Black Friday in-store experience.  I think I would rather pay a little more than to join all those enthusiastic shoppers.  Besides, I didn't really have any "must have" items that I wanted.  Today, I leisurely strolled around Target with Aidan, and I still managed to get some more "good deals".  The shopping season has only just begun.

Thanksgiving

Dear Logan,

Thanksgiving has come and gone. This year, I am thankful for good health, happy and loving family, great and supportive friends, a new home, jobs, and most importantly you. Even though our time spent together was short, but you have made a great impact on us all. You have made Daddy and Mommy stronger. Even your brother remembers you. He sees flowers, and he remembers we buy you flowers and even suggested me buying you flowers today and visiting you, instead of going shopping.

Last Thanksgiving, Ah Gung and Ah Po were here to spend it with us. Daddy and Mommy visited you at the hospital, and brought you a little turkey picture and taped it to your crib. We took a picture with you when you still had your nasal cannula, and IV on your head. It still hurt me when I saw that picture, esp. your IV.

This year, it's only Mommy and your brother. Daddy was in Taipei with all the other relatives for Uncle John's wedding. Luckily, Mommy and big brother got invited to a Thanksgiving dinner by Uncle Paul and Auntie Rachel. On Friday, we hung out with Uncle Kyle, Auntie Leonor and Melanie during the day, and had dinner with Auntie Shelley and her boyfriend. Mommy didn't do any Black Friday shopping. I was researching online but didn't really see anything that I absolutely wanted. Today, Saturday, was my shopping day. Mommy took your brother to Gilroy Outlet in the morning, and was able to buy him some clothes and a pair of shoes for myself. Then we went to Costco and did more shopping. Tomorrow, will be more shopping, and maybe taking your brother for a little train ride. Not quite sure yet.

I think we might also come by to visit you tomorrow. I want to bring back the poinsettias home for the holidays. Did you like those bright and cheery flowers we got you for Thanksgiving? I don't want the gardeners to take them away and I might not have time to stop by during the week before 5 p.m. to see you. So, it's best to bring that home tomorrow. I'll bring you another bouquet of lovely flowers, ok?

Thanksgiving Weekend

I know it's a little late to blog about Thanksgiving. I've been meaning to write more often, especially, at that right moment when Aidan was so cute. But once that moment is gone, I got lazy again.

So, Thanksgiving was nice and quiet. Had dinner at Paul and Rachel's. The food was good and I don't think I overate. I would love to, but it's really kinda hard to do that when you're chasing after a toddler all the time. The rest of the weekend was spent on shopping. I definitely didn't participate in the Black Friday craziness. However, I did shop at around 10 a.m., just not 5 a.m. Aside from getting clothes for Aidan, there wasn't any big purchases the whole weekend. I remember last year, i really wanted to get a laptop and there was a reason to look at Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. This year, I just browsed ads and websites unconsciously.


We went to Hillsdale Shopping Center on Saturday and saw that they already set up the Santa photo props. There wasn't a line so I figured, why not go ahead and take a pictures? This is Aidan's first picture with Santa Claus. I was surprised that he wasn't scared at all. He actually sat still and we were able to take one good picture. The picture package was somewhat expensive and the quality wasn't THAT great. But what the heck, it's for my cutiepie.



Thanksgiving weekend was also spent on decorating my Christmas Tree. I've been debating for a very long time whether I should get a new fake tree. This tree that I had, has been with me for years and it's really not that pretty. But since I didn't want to spend too much money, we ended up using this tree for another year. Hopefully, next year I would be able to get a new one. We got new LED lights for the tree and I was glad we did. The colored lights were so much nicer than my old set of lights and Aidan liked them so much more. We've set a timer so every night from 6-9 p.m., the lights would go on automatically. Each time Aidan saw the lights, he would say "Waaa". So cute!
